How subletting works

  1. List your place

Add photos, the neighbourhood, your move-out and return dates and the rent in CHF. You publish with a verified phone number.

  2. Read the requests

Each request comes with the person's first name, photos and a short intro. Several people can ask at the same time.

  3. Accept, talk, agree

Accept a request and a conversation opens. When you've found your subtenant, mark the listing filled and the other conversations close.

Before you sublet

In Switzerland you need your landlord's consent to sublet (Code of Obligations, art. 262). Ask your régie in writing, and keep the rent close to what you pay. This is general information, not legal advice. ASLOCA Genève can help with your own situation.

What keeps it safe

Verified phone numbers
Everyone who publishes a listing or sends a request has confirmed their phone number by SMS.
Your address stays private
Cards show the neighbourhood only. The exact address appears after a request is accepted, and photos are stored without their location data.
Block and report
Blocking someone is instant and hides you from each other. Reports are read by a person on our team.
No money through the app
Rent, deposit and contract are agreed between you. MaisonMatch never asks you for a payment.

Questions

Do I need my landlord's consent to sublet?

Yes. Swiss law (Code of Obligations, art. 262) says you need it. Your landlord can only refuse for set reasons, for example if the sublet terms are abusive compared with your own lease. Ask in writing before you publish.

How much rent can I ask?

Keep it close to what you pay. A fair amount on top for furniture is usual, but a large markup can be challenged as abusive.

Can several people send me requests?

Yes. You can read them all and accept the ones you want to talk to.

Who can see my address?

Only the people whose request you accept. Before that, everyone sees the neighbourhood.

Is it free?

Yes. MaisonMatch is free while we launch in Geneva.
